(1 vote)

Before you embark on this journey you might want to explore the reasons why you want to go to college; what are your goals?

Is it because that coveted degree will mean a higher salary and prestige, or because your parents are forcing you to go and you will fill the time until you figure out what you want to do with the rest of your life?

Are you a true scholar who possesses an insatiable love of knowledge and college is your nirvana? These are all possible reasons but at the current costs of higher education, you better figure it out before you or your parents start paying those tuition bills.

It is a big responsibility you have just been given—choosing your college path. It is one of the first and most important decisions you will make after spending the better part of your life under the guidance of your parents or other adults..

It helps if you have some idea about the educational field you will pursue or your chosen career path. This will make it easier to pick colleges that match your interests or skills. But if you are not sure what your major will be then it is important to choose schools that provide a diverse curriculum with a broad spectrum of majors.

Research your college choices and then narrow your list to no more than ten schools to get started on your applications. Selecting the colleges that fit your style and exploring the careers that will make or break your future are important steps that you should not take lightly. Handle it with the maturity and the newfound responsibility of your new role.
